Let the love in.

How to restore romance to the bedroom.

This month I want to talk about restoring passion and energy to your relationship. Well, really I’m talking about the importance of de-cluttering your bedroom but in essence, it’s the same thing.

Your bedroom is strongly associated with the intimacy of a relationship. If it’s cluttered and messy this can contribute to the fatigue and irritability that is present when you have difficulty sleeping. Not a great starting point.

If you’re single that same tiredness and anxiety can make it hard to go out and meet new people. The stuck energy in a messy, cluttered bedroom will make it doubly hard for a new relationship to get off the ground. You need to be making space for it.

So de-cluttering your bedroom is great for your relationship whether existing or potential, so let’s talk about some things you can do to create a clear change.

1.Have a vision

Know what you want for your bedroom. How do you want to use it? Does it need to fulfil more than one purpose e.g. double as an office, or can you create a sanctuary? What do you need in the room for it to work for you? And hold a clear picture in your mind of how you’d want it to look once the de-cluttering has been achieved.

2. Tackle the dumping ground

Pick up everything from the floor. I know this doesn’t sound like an easy task – especially if you treat your floor as a default cupboard (floordrobe), filing system or wardrobe. Even if you have to pop the stuff that you're 'not sure' about in a bin in another room for now, just get things off the floor and notice how good that looks and feels.

3. Let the energy flow

This activity includes clearing everything out from under your bed. This is not the place to store anything. For the energy to flow and create deeper sleep, an empty space under the bed is essential. Get into the habit of making your bed every day, preferably in the morning. You won’t believe the impact that will have on the overall feel of your bedroom.

4. Lose some bed linen

Will you be shocked if I say two sets of bed linen should be enough? One on the bed and one in the wash. Choose your favourite sets and donate the rest. You’ll save on storage and stress. And while we’re at it – let’s throw away the excess throw pillows. Getting into bed should be quick and easy, not a time consuming struggle with a mass of cushions.

5. Bring balance to the bedside tables

You don’t need the Leaning Tower of Books next to your bed – the one or two you’re actually reading now will be enough. Your bedside tables are not the place for papers, dirty plates or cups or anything that does not belong in a bedroom. The same goes for the drawers. Leave them clear for the important, personal things they should contain. And remember you only need one of everything; one bottle of lotion, one bottle of perfume, one pair of slippers.

Wardrobes can wait.

I haven’t touched on wardrobes here as that’s a biggie and needs a blog all of its own. However spend the time on the above actions and results might encourage you to make a start.

Clearing out a cluttered bedroom will lift your spirits, improve your mood, and increase your energy.  This will help you feel more relaxed and therefore more attractive to everyone in your life and those you’re yet to meet.
